Debra Schultz

Debra Schultz is full-time faculty for the HCC NE Drama Department.  She joined the faculty of HCC NE during Fall 2007 after serving nearly ten years as Owner/Instructor of the Performing Arts Education Centre of Kingwood.  At PAEC, Debra specialized in the instruction of Dance, Theatre, and Musical Theatre for children through adults.

 

Debra has directed over 30 fully-staged productions as well as over a dozen children's theatre productions and a handful of short plays. Just a few of her directing credits outside of HCC NE include: Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Cinderella" for Stage Right in Conroe, "True West" for Country Playhouse in Houston, "Stage Door," "Hamlet" and Euripides' "Medea" for Lonestar College Kingwood, as well as "Annie," "Grease" and "The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue," for ACT in Fowler, Ohio.

 

In addition to directing, Debra also designs nearly all of the shows she helms. Debra has also designed many shows around Houston.  Some of her design-only credits around Houston include: "The Great American Trailer Park Musical" for Standing Room Only Productions, "Harvey" for Stage Right and "Daddy's Dyin', Whose Got the Will?" for Playhouse 1960. She will be designing "Children's Hour" for Playhouse 1960 during Spring 2014.

 

Her playwriting credits include "Once Upon a Bridge..." "A Fairy Tail Tale," and "A Prince So Charming..." all produced at HCC NE as an annual summer series of family-friendly, audience participation plays.  Debra has also written "Talent Schmalent," "Jingle Elf, Secret Agent," "The Problem with Princesses," "Camp WiggaWoggaWoo," and "ROYGBIVIA," all produced at the Performing Arts Education Centre of Kingwood.  She has also had various short plays produced and performed around Houston.  Debra also served as the Artistic Director of the Scriptwriters/Houston 10x10 contest and performance for two years.

 

Debra holds a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance and a BA in Telecommunications: TV/Radion Production both from Youngstown State University as well as a MA in Film Theory, History and Criticism from The American University in Washington, DC.  Debra has also completed post-graduate work in Theatre History and Criticism at the University of Maryland.
